The Hackney Horse Society was formed in 1883 by a group of individuals who were keen to promote the breeding of Hackneys. The aims of the Society are to maintain and publish the Stud Book and to promote the Hackney Breed. To that end we hold two shows a year. The first is our Annual National Breed Show which is usually held during early June at the South of England show ground, Ardingly, West Sussex. The second is our Championship Show which is held at Bury Farm. We also have many shows which affiliate to us and run Hackney Classes under our rules and regulations.
The Hackney Horse & Pony are currently classified as “critical” on the Rare Breeds Survival Trust’s List. Thanks to the continued support of the Horse Race Betting Levy Board we are able to continue to support Hackney Breeding in various ways i.e. a premium scheme for breeding stock and helping breeders with the cost of registrations and DNA Blood Typing.
The Society has an Honorary President and a Council elected by members of the Society and headed by the Chairman.
