The Hackney is a British Breed with a long and illustrious history, renowned for their looks, stamina and soundness. Sadly, the breed is now declining, the Hackney being seen by the outside world as a very specialised animal and the breed is now listed as critical by the Rare Breed Survival Trust.

Whilst best known nowadays as the high stepping horse in the show ring, the Hackney is a tremendously versatile breed excelling in many other areas of equitation.

The Performance Award has been designed to recognise and reward the achievements of Hackneys who take part in other disciplines, or even just those who are much loved family pets. In the past we have had winners from the world of dressage, horse driving trials and private driving, or multi talented Hackneys who go show jumping as well as driving.
